LEVISSustainable lightweight components for electric vehicles- Steinbeis Europa zentrum supported project partners in LEVIS

As partner in the LEVIS project, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum was responsible for communication, and dissemination activities and supported the consortium in the exploitation of project results. With a total of thirteen partners from seven countries, we are pioneering sustainable lightweight components for electric vehicles (EVs). These components - suspension control arm, battery box, and cross-car beam - are at the forefront of innovation in the automotive industry. Through a combination of cutting-edge multi-material solutions, integrating advanced thermoplastic composites with metals, and leveraging cost-effective and scalable production technologies, LEVIS aims to achieve substantial weight reduction in EVs while ensuring robust mechanical performance.

A key pillar of LEVIS's approach is its commitment to environmental sustainability. By incorporating recyclable resins and utilizing biologically produced or recycled carbon fibres, the project ensures that every step of the manufacturing process aligns with eco-conscious principles. This holistic approach not only reduces the carbon footprint associated with EV production but also contributes to the overall circular economy.

Already, prototypes developed within the LEVIS project have showcased remarkable achievements, with weight reductions ranging roughly between 20-40%. These promising results underscore the project's efficacy and potential to contribute to revolutionizing the EV industry. As the project progresses into its final phase, the focus shifts towards validating these prototypes through comprehensive Life Cycle Analysis, rigorous cost assessments, and feasibility studies. These efforts are crucial in demonstrating the real-world viability of LEVIS's innovations and their capacity to drive meaningful change.
