European Tender Smart Cities Information System (SCIS)

A one-stop shop for exchanging knowledge and experiences from all SCC and EeB projects

In order to achieve the energy- and climate goals of the EU 2030, cities and communities are currently facing the challenge of reducing CO2-emmissions with the help of smart energy- and mobility concepts. The goal is to increase the share of renewable energies to 27 per cent, to improve energy efficiency by 27 per cent and to reduce CO2-emmissions by 40 per cent.

The Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) is an accompanying measure of the DG ENERGY and thus a one-stop-shop bringing together project developers, cities, institutions, industry and experts from across Europe to exchange know-how, experience and data, thus collaborating on the creation of smart cities and an energy-efficient urban environment. By monitoring and analysis, innovative energy projects (projects of the CONCERTO programme, Smart Cities and Communities (SCC) and Energy-efficient Buildings (EeB)) show cities and communities how they can reach the mentioned energy- and climate goals set by the EU and how they can replicate innovative solutions.

In the meta-projects CONCERTO Plus (2005-2010) and CONCERTO Premium (2010-2014), the experiences and technology performance data from the CONCERTO sites had been transferred and analysed. The results were made available on the CONCERTO website, in reports and via the interactive technical monitoring database with intelligent search facility. In 2014, the Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) initiative followed, to transfer, manage and analyse the data from all projects funded by the European Commission of the CONCERTO programme, of all SCC and EeB projects. By doing so, a basis for policy advice and transferable knowledge has been created.

From 2014 through 2017, SCIS was coordinated by GOPA COM. S.A. At the end of 2017, a new consortium, led by VITO, the Flemish Institute for Technological Research in Belgium, has taken over coordination. Overall, six partners from four countries are involved: Besides VITO (Belgium), these are EUROCITIES (Belgium), DNV-GL (Netherlands), Steinbeis 2i (Germany), Tecnalia (Spain) and Th!nk E (Belgium).

Steinbeis 2i is responsible for dissemination and communication of all SCIS activities. The goal is to continue the dissemination work done by the previous tenders SCIS, CONCERTO Premium and CONERTO Plus, but also to further develop upon their work and to integrate new projects. The focus is the replication of successful innovative technologies as well as increasing the visibility of the SCIS database using the storyteller approach. Special attention will be paid to the 13 countries having joined the EU since 2004, as well as the H2020 associated countries.

Within this SCIS tender, Steinbeis 2i GmbH is responsible for:

  • Increasing the visibility of the various projects
  • Improve internal communication within the various projects as well as external communication of project results to the public and interested stakeholders
  • Promote replication of successful strategies and methods

Project duration: 10/2017 – 10/2020

Participating countries: all countries that are part of SCC and EeB projects as well as countries that are part of the DG ENERGY/EASME program CONCERTO.
