European project OMNI-NET

Promoting industrial and scientific clusters of optic, micro- and nanoelectronic industry

Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum was project partner in the European project OMNI-NET, which focused on optics and micro/nano electronics (OMN) clusters and aimed at improving their interaction and cooperation.

OMNI-NET intended to take advantage of the opportunities and challenges presented by convergence to enable clusters to adapt and to construct methodologies. The goal of the OMNI-NET project was to provide EU national and regional stakeholders with analyses, methodologies, best practices, joint projects and policy recommendations to facilitate the necessary evolution of clusters in transverse and convergent technologies.

Another project objective was the preparation of a trans-regional network of clusters (metacluster) in order to identify and prepare strategic projects based on common needs for European cooperation on specific innovation themes.

For the companies in Baden-Wuerttemberg Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum and Photonics BW carried out two workshops in Stuttgart and Aalen in 2007. The workshop in Aalen was carried out in collaboration with the Photonics BW Working Group on Optical design and simulation with 32 participants. In addition, on 5-09.07.2007 an International Business Convention Workshop on "Laser technology" (on three selected areas of operation) with 28 participants took place in Aalen.

In 2008, as part of the project an "International Business Convention Workshop" on optical measurement techniques and laser technology was organised in Berlin. In addition, the project results were presented at the congress "Optical Technologies" in Berlin, organised by BMBF and BMWi.

Project duration: 12/2005 - 05/2008
