A sustainable energy system for Europe through close integration of research, innovation and education

The international Knowledge and Innovation Community KIC InnoEnergy SE is the leading European company for innovation, business creation and education in sustainable energy. The aim is to foster marketable technologies for a sustainable energy system in Europe. Since its foundation in 2010 by a consortium of leading industries, research institutes and universities, KIC InnoEnegy has already enabled several projects as an investor: currently, 52 new ventures are nurtured in our incubator, 458 students are enrolled in our educational programmes and 40 patents have been filed in the context of our innovation programmes. We are committed to a 7 plus 7 years industrial plan to mobilize €400m annually in the run-rate. KIC InnoEnergy is financially supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). With its headquarters in the Netherlands, the company develops its activity through a network of offices located in Benelux, France, Germany, Iberia, Poland and Sweden. The headquarters of the German office are located in Karlsruhe.

KIC InnoEnergy as a European innovation platform was initiated by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The German office, since 2012 acting as KIC InnoEnergy Germany GmbH, deals with the issue of energy from chemical fuels. Founders are the KIT, the University of Stuttgart, the company EnBW as well as the Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ) with offices in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. As further associated partners the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW) and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG-ISI, Karlsruhe) are involved at KIC InnoEnergy Germany GmbH.

Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum ensures that the planned technology transfer activities reach in particular SMEs. In this way, the user market in the energy area shall quickly apply brand new technologies and add value. Moreover,
SEZ is committed to ensure that women in science, education and business are won over to deal with the issue of energy and contribute their skills to create more innovations. Similarly, SEZ strategically supports the creation of start-ups.
