From 20-21 May 2026, our colleagues Hanna Schäfer and Luisa Schmalen organised the yearly Clean energy for EU islands forum - this year in Mallorca! The format was different from the past years, with much fewer panel discussions and more group sessions, role-plays, and breakout sessions, which the participants loved. Gabi Kaiser and Siora Keller were also present and managed everything around communication, including press releases, communication materials, video production and taking pictures of the event.

Under the motto "Resilient islands, resilient Europe", the forum focused on the governance of the decarbonisation of EU islands and on aligning all stakeholders for a just energy transition. Firsthand testimonies from the transition teams of the 30for2030 islands provided key insights to empower the islands and their communities by aligning stakeholders’ views, priorities, and objectives. In doing so, the Forum demonstrated how building resilience at the island level strengthens Europe as a whole.
The three-year technical assistance provided to the 30for2030 islands, along with national-level regulatory reviews, has highlighted the complex governance of the energy transition on EU islands. The 2026 forum emphasised experience-sharing among EU island communities and representatives from various levels of government and other stakeholders, highlighting achievements and identifying remaining gaps to ensure full decarbonisation.
The Clean energy for EU islands forum 2026 brought together 133 representatives from over 30 islands.
Two site visits have taken place within the forum: Site Visit 1: Rifugio Climatico Son Oliva School & Site Visit 2: Green H2 production facility.
In addition to the regular forum activities, two capacity-building workshops were held in Mallorca on 19 and 22 May 2026, offering hands-on learning and practical insights for island energy stakeholders.
As a project partner in the Clean energy for EU island secretariat, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum disseminates and communicates the project activities and results, including press releases, podcasts, video campaigns, the organisation of web seminars, workshops and conferences.
