SHIFT-HUB (Smart Health Innovation & Future Technologies HUB) was a European project that has addressed key challenges in the development of digital health applications since 2023. Coordinated by Steinbeis Europa Zentrum, the consortium aimed to establish a Europe-wide network bringing together stakeholders from industry, research, policy and society. With eleven partners from seven countries and a total budget of €2 million, the project resulted in a European hub that, by its completion in December 2025, actively connected stakeholders and provided a broad portfolio of services to foster the development, deployment and acceptance of Smart Health technologies.

The service portfolio included the initiation of new collaborations via a community platform with an integrated marketplace, matchmaking events and a wide range of workshop formats. In addition, SHIFT-HUB strengthened the development and visibility of digital health solutions. The Steinbeis Europa Zentrum contributed its long-standing expertise in European innovation support, particularly through the design and implementation of Entrepreneurial Discovery Workshops (EDWs) and Capacity Building Workshops (CBWs).

A highlight of the final project year 2025 was the EDW organised by the Steinbeis Europa Zentrum at the Startup BW Summit in Stuttgart, in cooperation with BadenCampus and BIOPRO. The workshop provided founders, investors and innovation stakeholders with a structured setting to discuss regional needs, innovation barriers and opportunities in the Smart Health domain. The results were published as concrete recommendations on the project website and now serve as policy guidance for regional ecosystems.

In parallel, the CBW series was successfully completed in 2025. Targeting replicators and multipliers, it transferred SHIFT-HUB experiences and participatory innovation methods. In collaboration with initiatives such as the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs), best practices were developed and made freely available to strengthen European knowledge transfer.

The project concluded, among other activities, with the SHIFT-HUB Conference in Thessaloniki, bringing together European stakeholders to discuss technological trends, innovation needs and policy frameworks in digital health. Through its expertise in project management and coordination, innovation consulting, community building and participatory methodologies, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum made a significant contribution to the successful completion of SHIFT-HUB, which continues to have a lasting impact on the European innovation ecosystem.
