Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping the way economies function, public services are delivered, and businesses innovate across Europe. While its potential is significant, AI adoption also raises important questions related to regulation, ethics, skills, and practical implementation—particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public institutions. Addressing these challenges requires not only technology, but also access to clear, reliable, and well-structured knowledge.

In this context, the BrAIn Library was developed as a central knowledge hub within the BrAIn Project, implemented and funded under the Interreg Danube Region Programme. The Library is designed to support stakeholders across the Danube Region by providing easy access to high-quality resources on artificial intelligence, covering policy frameworks, research and innovation, and real-world applications.

Steinbeis Europa Zentrum is a key partner in the EU project BrAIn, leading several strategic activities such as establishing the transnational network of trainers supporting the knowledge transfer among stakeholders from their regions, as well as establishing a network of evaluators designated to critically evaluate demo cases presenting innovative AI solutions in the field of agri-food, healthcare and manufacturing. Steinbeis Europa Zentrum has also the privilege of being assigned in the project to organise a capitalization and knowledge transfer event during which innovative solutions for product and service development will be presented and to lead the capitalization and exploitation activities of the projects results connected to a broader macro strategy level.

A structured gateway to AI knowledge

The BrAIn Library brings together a wide range of carefully selected materials, including EU and national policy documents, international guidelines, research papers, strategies, case studies, and practical tools. To ensure clarity and usability, the content is structured into three main thematic chapters:

  • AI Policy and Regulatory Framework, offering insights into the legal and governance environment shaping AI development and deployment, including the EU AI Act, ethical guidelines, and national AI strategies.
  • Research and Innovation, highlighting scientific advancements, emerging technologies, and strategic research directions relevant to AI.
  • Practical AI Applications, showcasing real-life examples of AI use by SMEs, start-ups, and public actors across sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, and digital services.

This structure allows users to explore both the strategic context of AI and its concrete, hands-on applications, bridging the gap between theory and practice.

Supporting informed and responsible AI adoption

One of the key objectives of the BrAIn Library is to empower decision-makers, entrepreneurs, and practitioners to make informed choices about AI adoption. For many organisations—especially SMEs—barriers such as limited expertise, regulatory uncertainty, or unclear return on investment can slow down digital transformation. By consolidating diverse and trusted resources in one place, the Library helps reduce these barriers and supports responsible, human-centred, and sustainable AI uptake.

The Library also reflects the European approach to AI: innovation driven by competitiveness and growth, balanced with strong safeguards for fundamental rights, transparency, and ethical standards. In doing so, it contributes to building trust in AI technologies and promoting their wider acceptance across society.

A living resource for collaboration and learning

As AI technologies and policies continue to evolve, the BrAIn Library is conceived as a living resource that supports continuous learning, capacity building, and cross-border knowledge exchange. It serves policymakers, researchers, businesses, and other stakeholders seeking to better understand AI trends and translate them into practical action.

By fostering access to knowledge and encouraging collaboration across the Danube Region, the BrAIn Library plays a key role in advancing the BrAIn Project’s mission: strengthening regional AI ecosystems and enabling inclusive, resilient, and future-oriented development.
