Alpine SpaceAccelerating the green transformation of mechatronics, automotive, bioeconomy sectors in the Alpine Space

18. November 2024

13 European partners from 7 countries of the Alpine region will develop and enhance research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies in the next 3 years. Keywords like Industry 5.0 and humancentric approach play an important role in this context.

Steinbeis Europa Zentrum is one of the project partner and supports the mobilization of SMEs in Baden-Württemberg for the project's support offers. It is responsible for communication and dissemination activities.

The RECENTRE project is set to strengthen the alpine manufacturing sector by making it more adaptive, resilient, and forward-thinking. The project aims at accelerating the green transformation of mechatronics, automotive, bioeconomy sectors, leveraging advanced technologies while ensuring worker well-being. In the context of increasing economic pressures and the need for sustainable practices, RECENTRE’s approach integrates green manufacturing, digitalization, and human-focused growth to achieve flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability essential for competitive success.

Industry 5.0 strategy, an evolution of Industry 4.0 post-COVID-19

The manufacturing industry is vital to the Alpine region’s economy, especially in automotive, mechatronics, and bioeconomy sectors. Transitioning to greater efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability is essential but often hindered by high costs and a lack of skilled workers. The EU’s Industry 5.0 strategy, an evolution of Industry 4.0 post-COVID-19, aims to make SMEs smarter with AI, more sustainable by reducing environmental impacts, and more resilient by integrating into the social ecosystem.

In this context, 13 organisations from Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Slovenia and Switzerland are working together in the RECENTRE project to drive the transformation of these sectors towards Industry 5.0 in order to make small and medium-sized enterprises in the regions more resilient, sustainable and future-proof. The partners will develop and enhance research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies.

The project focus lies in the following activities:

+ Inventory and needs analysis
Survey of the current status of the manufacturing industry in the Alpine region and the needs of companies with regard to the introduction of Industry 5.0.

+ Development of transition plans
Concrete plans for the transformation of production processes in the automotive, mechatronics and bioeconomy sub-sectors in line with Industry 5.0.

+ Support and further training
The provision of knowledge, training courses and workshops to facilitate the transition for companies and impart the necessary skills.

RECENTRE partners

The RECENTRE was successfully launched on September 1, 2024 and has a duration of 36 months. The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Alpine Space programme.
