EU project GREENEA new generation of magnets - Steinbeis supports partners in communication activities
In the GREENE research and innovation project, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum is supporting the development of a new generation of high-performance, more sustainable magnets with reduced Rare Earth (RE) content and close to no heavy rare earths (RE).
The project partners aim to achieve a breakthrough in the manufacture of neodymium-based permanent magnets by completely redesigning these magnets using innovative methods such as intelligent modelling, in-situ grain boundary diffusion and rapid consolidation. Current neodymium-based permanent magnets have a much higher performance potential than what is achieved after manufacturing, considering the amount of materials used.
The project partners are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in materials science by developing single-grain Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets with a new grain boundary interface, reducing the RE content of the magnets. The new magnets are expected to be more resource-efficient and have a coercive field strength that is approximately 20% higher, a magnetic remanence that is 10% higher and a maximum energy product that is 20% higher.
Steinbeis Europa Zentrum prepared project partners, some of whom are newcomers to the world of European Union research and innovation programmes, for the first project review, which took place in January 2026. Thanks to its longstanding experience in management support, Steinbeis was able to provide the partners with useful advice on how to deliver insightful contributions that will help the reviewers evaluate the initial progress of the project.
Thanks to its strong network in the magnet community, Steinbeis also helped to establish useful contacts with related projects and make the most of potential synergies – for example, by jointly organising the first joint capacity building webinar on the basics of magnetism with the BEETHOVEN dissemination partner.
In GREENE, we take care of all tasks related to communication, dissemination and exploitation of project results, clustering and support to the coordinator in administrative and financial project management.
8 Mio. EUR EU funding for GREENE, 06/2024 - 05/2028
„We are very satisfied with Steinbeis Europa Zentrum’s support, as their structured and highly detailed approach significantly facilitates the overall project management. They efficiently handle the administrative, dissemination, communication and exploitation activities in line with a clearly defined strategy and well-established goals, making the management of the project considerably easier for all partners.“
