The Clean energy for EU islands forum was organised by Steinbeis Europa Zentrum (as part of the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat) as a hybrid event. The physical part has taken place in Rhodes, Greece on 17-18 May and the online participants were able to join via the platform veertly. Steinbeis Europa Zentrum is the lead communication and events partner in the Clean energy for EU islands secretariat. The Forum was opened with a keynote speech by the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, the Greek Minister Kostas Skrekas, and MEP Tonino Picula, Chair of the SEArica Intergroup, of the European Parliament. The Forum was rounded off by a visit to the Greek eco-island of Halki, where participants gained insights into the island's work.
In addition to exciting keynotes, pupils and students also had their say at the forum. As part of the European Year of Youth, students from the University of the Aegean and pupils from high schools on Rhodes discussed energy and climate issues together with the conference experts and presented their views.
