Project REHOUSEAccelerating the European Renovation Rate

Steinbeis Europa Zentrum führt Workshop mit den Partnern von REHOUSE durch

In the REHOUSE project, experts from the EU and Switzerland are working together to make building renovations faster, more efficient, and more comfortable for the people who live and work in them. The project’s main goal is to develop and demonstrate eight innovative renovation packages that answer to different renovation needs, from basic upgrades to deep renovations. REHOUSE focuses on using eco-friendly, recyclable materials to support a circular economy in construction. By using techniques like prefabrication, off-site building, and simplified installation, the project aims to cut renovation costs and time, making sustainable renovations easier and more affordable. Demonstration sites are in Budapest, Hungary, Margherita di Savoia, Italy, Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, France and Xanthi, Greece.

Customer Needs for Sustainable Building Renovation

The European Commission funds project consortia with the aim of promoting Europe’s innovative strength and bringing innovations more quickly to the European market and by this to the end-user. This supports the sustainability of solutions.

From the beginning of the project, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum has been monitoring the innovative outcomes and assisted partners in defining their project results in terms of their substance, future exploitation intentions and ownership of Intellectual Property.

To pave the way for the future exploitation of the eight REHOUSE Renovation Packages and additional four Key Exploitable Results it is essential to continuously reflect on customer perspectives while developing renovation solutions. For this reason, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum and the partners have identified five customer profiles: Homeowners, commercial building owners, Real Estate developers, public sector organisations and property management companies.

Insights from the Customer Profiling Workshop

The Renovation Packages have been validated up to TRL 6. In the current stage of the project, they are about to be implemented at the four demonstration sites. In line with the development of Renovation Packages, it is essential to recall the needs and expectations of the target groups for further valorisation purposes.

A focused workshop on customer profiling for REHOUSE renovation solutions was conducted as part of the project meeting in Mendrisio, Switzerland in November 2024. Moderated by Steinbeis Europa Zentrum, the session brought together project partners to collaboratively explore how the renovation packages align with the needs of the identified customer groups.

The workshop utilized the value proposition canvas, a strategic tool developed by Strategyzer AG, to systematically analyse the jobs, pains, and gains of potential customers. This framework allowed workshop participants to deeply understand and discuss the customer needs and tailor the renovation solutions to deliver maximum value from the perspective of the customers.

The project partners worked in teams on the respective stakeholder groups, taking into account the focus of their organisations. Through engaging discussions, the teams uncovered valuable insights to refine the REHOUSE solutions and effectively address challenges related to deep building renovations. The purpose of this activity is to create a fit between REHOUSE renovation solutions and customer’s jobs, pains and gains.

Steinbeis Europa Zentrum along with the REHOUSE partners will further develop value proposition for the defined exploitable solutions.
