European project Danube S3 Cluster
Fostering transnational cluster cooperation in the Danube region focusing on Agrofood
The Danube region is characterised by an unbalanced distribution of innovation performance between its Western and Eastern part that stems from the coexistence of different framework conditions and policies in the research and innovation sector. What is lacking is a better coordination of the national public policies as well as investment policies using the smart specialization strategy (S3). Smart specialization aims at identifying and developing the region’s own strengths and competitive advantages.
The aim of the Danube S3 Cluster project is to enhance innovation management knowledge and skills and foster transnational cluster cooperation in the agro-food sector. To do so, the fourteen project partners will first develop a strategy and programme, which then will be tested in five pilot initiatives – in Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Moldova and Ukraine – in four crosscutting themes: market intelligence, open innovation, healthy food and models that work in circular economy.
Within this project, S2i will conduct various activities: devising a local action plan for market intelligence, preparing innovation audit tools for cluster managers and members, organizing the final conference and delivering training sessions on innovation management dimensions, business internationalization and scale-up.
The project is part of the INTERREG Danube program and is coordinated by South Muntenia Regional Development Agency, Romania. It is co-funded by European Union funds (ERDF, IPA, ENI) for a total budget of 1.8 Mio Euro.
