European Project POSMETRANS - POlicy measures for innovation in TRANSport sector with special focus on Small- and Medium sized Enterprises
Factors and recommendations for success and sustainability
The Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum is coordinator for the project POSMETRANS, which is a Coordination and Support Action funded by the European Commission within the scope of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). POSMETRANS aims at promoting sustainable surface transport by providing policy support for innovative technologies and processes in transport. The focus lies on small and medium sized enterprises because they generate the largest turnover and the most jobs.
The POSMETRANS project is pursuing two core goals:
• Providing a frame for the impact assessment and evaluation of EU measures aiming at innovation
• Elaborating recommendations for future policy measures in order to accelerate the market take-up of innovative technologies and processes in surface transport
After innovative technologies and policy measures are indentified, a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis will be performed by interviewing innovative key players. Best practices will be thus identified and then validated by an expert panel. This will lead to the elaboration of recommendations to the European Commission.
Following this action plan, POSMETRANS will contribute to achieve the following results:
POSMETRANS will support European policy makers in defining general conditions and priorities to increase the efficiency of innovation policy measures in the transport and logistics area.
POSMETRANS will link logistic and transport policy questions in an overview. Propositions will be gathered on how solutions to the problems can be approached that ensure efficiency and sustainability.
POSMETRANS will help to identify obstacles to the development of the transport and logistics sector. It will deliver estimations of the affected stakeholder about how this can be solved in a sustainable way.
POSMETRANS will produce guidelines for a harmonized training of the employees of the transport sector. Securing consistent quality standards for the benefit of the customers and consumers is our priority.
POSMETRANS will enable a significant increase in the efficiency of existing handling junctions by showing ways for a clever collaboration between actors of different carriers. This will ensure the completion of the European transport needs in the coming years.
