Job Advertisement for Freelance Journalist for European Tender “CONCERTO Premium
Energy solutions for smart cities and communities

Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ) is an independent economic entity within the Steinbeis Foundation and was founded in March 1990 as the operational unit of the Commissioner for Europe of Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Economics. SEZ's core activity is to promote European RTD programmes and to support cross-border technology transfer. Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ) supports companies, universities and research institutions in Baden-Württemberg to participate in European projects and carries out more than 40 European projects itself.
For the Tender “CONCERTO Premium”, which is financed by the European Union, Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum is looking for an experienced journalist on a freelance basis with excellent English skills and expert knowledge in energy efficiency measures in buildings and renewable energy technologies. Knowledge in ESCO services or other financial services is welcome.
The focus of CONCERTO Premium is on knowledge transfer as well as the study of good examples of sustainable energy usage, the use of renewable energies, energy efficiency and CO2 reduction. To achieve this, the European Union is funding European best practice projects within the initiative CONCERTO. Today, there are a total of 58 communities in 22 CONCERTO pilot projects, each working to deliver the highest possible level of self-supply of energy. CONCERTO is part of the Research Framework Programme supervised by the DG Energy of the European Commission (http://www.concerto.eu).
During the years 2012 and 2013 the results and activities of all CONCERTO cities and communities will be disseminated and published all over Europe and should be established as a benchmark.
Objectives and tasks involved:
- Communication to project partners within CONCERTO
- Development of concepts for interviews and articles
- 2 press releases per year (1-2 pages, information material provided)
- 2 articles per year for specialist press (2-3 pages, photos provided)
- 12 articles per year specifically designed for the specific needs of electronic media such as Concerto.eu-homepage and blogs
- Search for relevant media for publication
- Contribution to innovative editorial topics
- Participation in CONCERTO events including report (twice a year including photo-shooting)
The salary consists of an appropriate payment per page plus compensation for travel expenses.
As the ideal candidate for this journalist role, you will demonstrate the ability to deliver professional articles in the English language to a broad public. Therefore you will need to be able to translate specific terminologies into a language intelligible to all. Besides your perfect English skills you need to have a good knowledge of “green” technologies. You are ideally a journalist with an excellent grasp of news writing, familiar with the special demands of websites and social networks and experienced in “sustainable energy topics”.
