Technology partnership for innovative treatment of drinking and industrial water – European project INNOWA

The project aimed at building capacity for technology transfer by establishing a European-Asian technology network on innovative water treatment technologies with focus on membrane techniques. The target groups were educational and research institutions as well as industries in Asia and Europe. The target countries were Bangladesh and China. Within the framework of this project, teaching and research staff and industrial users from Asia had the opportunity to attend training courses and seminars given by specialists from Europe.

The overall objective of the project was to contribute significantly to the reduction of waterborne diseases and illnesses in the Asian target countries, particularly among poor families. This means to contribute to better health conditions by improved drinking water quality and reduced toxic industrial waste water discharge into the rivers.

Furthermore, adapted, cost-effective water treatment technologies in the field of drinking and industrial water treatment were developed in collaboration with the industrial sector and were promoted for market application. This project paved the path for a long-term collaboration in different forms (joint research, organization of training courses, joint seminars, publications, technology transfer) between Asian and European countries in the field of technology development and technology transfer.

INNOWA was coordinated by the University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe. Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum supported the university in submitting the proposal and was project manager.
