The History of Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ)
- 1990
SEZ was founded as the operational unit of the Commissioner for Europe of the Minister of Economics Baden-Württemberg. The first Commissioner for Europe was Hans J. Tümmers who was founding father of SEZ. The office started with a workforce of two people.
- 1993
SEZ was nominated to become a Value Relay Centre. It became one of four Value Relay Centres in Germany. The network of the VRCs was initiated and supported by the European Commission under the 3rd Framework Programme. By this time five people were employed.
- 1994
SEZ became Consortium leader of the Innovation Relay Centre Stuttgart-Nürnberg-Erfurt under the 4th Framework Programme of the European Commission.
- 1995
Prof. Nieß became the second Commissioner for Europe. SEZ had eight employees at that time.
- 1996
The Czech Academy in Prague became our Twinning partner. SEZ supported the structuring of the Innovation Relay Centre in Prague. The SEZ team had grown to 10 employees.
- 2000
SEZ became Consortium leader of the Innovation Relay Centre D/CH together with THATI GmbH IRC in Erfurt and a new partner - OSEC Business Network in Zurich, Switzerland. Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum Karlsruhe was created with one employee.
- 2001
SEZ was named regional contact point for the EU programme CRAFT by the Ministry of Science and Education.
- 2002
Prof. Dr. Höptner took over as third Commissioner for Europe. The office in Karlsruhe continued its service with a team of three people.
- 2003
SEZ continued to provide dedicated IRC tasks and services. The team was made up of 16 well-qualified staff from five countries.
- 2004
SEZ started a new contract period under the name Innovation Relay Centre Stuttgart - Erfurt - Zürich.
- 2005
10 Years Innovation Relay Centre Network- Congress "Innovation durch Kooperation" in co-operation with the Federal Ministry for Education and Science in Stuttgart. Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum celebrated it's 15th anniversary.
- 2006
SEZ was again named National Contact Point for small and medium sized enterprises (SME) in Baden-Württemberg by the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology. It received the official nomination as EU Information Centre for universities in Baden-Württemberg by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts. Euresearch became the Swiss partner in the IRC Stuttgart- Erfurt- Zürich. The SEZ counted 29 employees, six of them in Karlsruhe.
- 2008
Since January 2008 SEZ is partner within the new Enterprise Europe Network of the European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry. The network is central contact point for all enterprises, universities and research institutions in Baden-Württemberg. Partners in the consortium are Handwerk International (consortium leader), SEZ, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and seven chambers of commerce and industry (IHK Hochrhein-Bodensee, IHK Region Stuttgart, IHK Reutlingen, IHK Rhein-Neckar, IHK Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg, IHK Südlicher Oberrhein, IHK Ulm).
- 2010
Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum celebrated it's 20th anniversary. The SEZ has 37 employees, twelve of them in Karlsruhe.
