European project ENVIMPACT – Increasing the impact of Central-Eastern European environment research results through more effective dissemination and exploitation
The great influence of the environment on human health is becoming increasingly more evident. OECD studies show that early mortality in Europe is influenced to about 2 - 6 % by environmental factors such as air and noise pollution. The Eastern European countries are particularly affected by these environmental factors, due to severe environmental damages caused by decades of negligence and mishandling.
The project aims to encourage international cross-border co-operations, which should make it possible to find new and innovative solutions relating to these environmental stresses through research exchange. ENVIMPACT also wants to increase the participation of Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries in European research projects funded by the 7th European Framework Programme (FP7) within the area environment. Because these countries have so far been scarcely represented within the programme.
The project aims to support Central and Eastern European Countries in the exploitation of research results in the area of environmental technologies, while helping them towards a more successful participation within the 7th European Framework Programme and its successor programme. By this, the knowledge base of the European Research Area should be expanded and more innovative solutions for the permanent protection of the environment should be applied.
The activities that take place within the project include, among others:
- collection of research practices and results of CEE researchers in the field of air pollution, chemical pollution and environmental technologies
- integration of CEE researchers in projects funded by the FP7 and FP8 in the field of environmental technologies
- promotion of the study of ecological and innovative technologies in the EU, especially in the CEE countries
Within the project, Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum carries out a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) regarding the participation opportunities for the Western European and CEE countries. The aim is to identify possible improvements of the funding programmes and to give recommendations on how cooperations can be facilitated. Target groups are, on the one hand, the European Commission regarding the design of future programmes and, on the other hand, researchers and small and medium sized enterprises as the direct benefactors and actors.
