European project Building Up – Long-term Research and Innovation Roadmap towards more energy-efficient Buildings
The project Building Up aims at creating effective synergies between European Technology Platforms (ETPs) and major European initiatives whose priorities and activities address energy-efficiency in the buildings' environment, particularly on new materials related technologies. The project has the objective to to identify and review the needs, in terms of long-term research activities and innovation, for energy-efficient buildings (EeB). Finally the partners will draw up a comprehensive roadmap which will serve as basis to provide guidelines and policy recommendations to the European Commission (EC) and relevant stakeholders. Building Up is co-financed by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Programme.
Building Up will complement the outputs already generated by the EeB PPP by bringing out a roadmap targeting a long-term scenario. In that way Building Up will shed light on key relevant RTD and innovation issues to be taken into account by the EC to meet the Grand Challenges of the future as far as energy efficiency for Buildings and districts is concerned.
The consortium of 11 partners is led by the French “Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment” (CSTB). Further partners are the six European Technology Platforms (ETPs) European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP), European Advanced Materials Platform (EUMAT), Sustainable Chemicals (Suschem), European Technology Platform for the future of Textile and Closing (Textile ETP), European Steel Platform (ESTEP), Forest-based Technology Platform (FTP). An additional key project partner is the Energy Efficient Buildings Association (E2BA), which was set up by the ECTP and is responsible to operate and administer the Energy-Efficient Buildings Public Private Partnership (EeB-PPP). Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum is responsible for coordinating the wide public consultation among stakeholders which is aimed at enhancing, complementing and validating the roadmap developed during the project.
