Anniversary Year 2010 - 20 Years Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum – 20 Years Innovation through Co-operation in Europe

20 Years SEZ Stuttgart / 10 Years SEZ Karlsruhe

In 1990 the Baden-Württemberg federal state government created the position of the Commissioner for Europe of the Minister of Economics. Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ) was also founded in the same year as an important unit to implement this economic promotion measure and was established in Stuttgart as the commissioner’s operational unit. An office in Karlsruhe followed 10 years later. During these two decades, the Commissioner for Europe and the SEZ have not only provided thousands of enterprises and their employees in Baden-Württemberg with information on ways to strengthen European transnational co-operation with public funding, but have also initiated and offered high-quality support to hundreds of co-operation projects.

Congress "Strategies for Innovation and Competitiveness in Europe"“ on 14.04.2010 in Stuttgart

The congress delivered new impulses for all stakeholders of the innovation process.
Uniquely, the congress linked two different perspectives of innovation:

• the transfer of knowledge from research to business practice and
• the transfer of innovation within a region and between European regions

The congress was hosted by Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum together with the INTERREG programme CENTRAL EUROPE, the Enterprise Europe Network Baden-Württemberg and the Ministry of Economics Baden-Württemberg.

Anniversary Event in Brussels

Under the headline “Europe on the path to an Innovation Union”, the SEZ organised a celebration event on 12th October 2010 in Brussels. The European Commission’s newly published Innovation Union strategic paper was the focus of the event, organized in co-operation with the Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union in Brussels and the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg. The Innovation Union strategy was presented and discussed by representatives of the European Commission.

With pride, we can look back on 20 years European innovation support in Baden-Württemberg – we have built many bridges with sound judgement, competence and quality. We report on this in this jubilee issue in which we present a best practice example for every year of our history. This interesting overview is also a success story of the state of Baden-Württemberg and illustrates the change which can be found here in companies, universities and research facilities with clear results. With this we have helped shape Baden-Württemberg’s success story of many years as Europe’s most innovative region.
